Fisheries Innovations Conference

fip_webParallel to this year’s Europort maritime exhibition in Rotterdam, an international congress on innovation in the fishery sector – the Fisheries Innovations Conference – will take place at the Golden Tulip Hotel on 6 and 7 November 2009. The conference is a collaborative effort by the Fisheries Innovations Platform (FIP) and the Dutch Ministry of Agriculture, Nature and Food Quality (LNV) and provide a unique opportunity for fishermen, policy makers, fishing gear technologists and biologists from the North Sea regions to meet international colleagues.

During the event, fishermen (in cooperation with scientists) and policy makers will present the innovations that they have developed and participants will have the opportunity to share their knowledge, ideas and challenges relating to fisheries innovation. Albert Vermuë, member of the FIP and Fisheries Director of the Dutch Ministry of Agriculture, Nature and Food Quality: “The cooperation with Europort provides the fisheries industry with a unique opportunity to discover and adapt to innovations arising in other maritime sectors. Vice versa, being able to share the wealth of innovation within the fisheries industry can contribute to further developments in other maritime sectors. There’s no lack of innovation in fishery!”

Raymond Siliakus, Exhibition Manager of Europort 2009 is delighted with the collaboration: “Historically, the fisheries sector has always been an important target audience for Europort. We’re therefore very pleased that the FIP has decided to organise a simultaneous congress in perfect harmony with the theme of ‘Advanced Technology.’ For people working in the sector, the combination of these two events is a very good incentive to travel to Rotterdam.”

Europort 2009 will offer a complete programme on ‘Advanced Technology’ for nine different sectors. The ‘Advanced Technology Conferences’ will present technological opportunities within the following sectors: Mega Yachts, Marine, Workboats, Offshore, Construction Vessels and Fishery. For the navigation sector, Europort will organize daily interactive meetings in the Inland Shipping House. Furthermore, The ‘Europort Short Sea Conference’ will also take place and the Central Dredging Association (CEDA) will hold a two-day ‘CEDA Dredging Days’ congress. The special focus this year will be on dredging techniques of the future.
