OPK Delivers Icebreaker, Signs Agreement with Hyundai Heavy Industries


opklogo_webYan Yanovsky, Managing Director and Member of the Boards of Directors of United Industrial Corporation (OPK) and B.T. Ahn, Executive vice-president of Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) signed a shipbuilding cooperation agreement. The agreement includes the joint development of shipbuilding projects and equipment and joint vessel design. Hyundai Heavy Industries, as a partner of OPK, will provide support in the construction of new shipbuilding facilities, shipyard management and in building specific vessel types.

OPK have also just delivered the icebreaker St. Petersburg, planned for first deployment in the Gulf of Finland in the winter of 2009. The St. Petersburg icebreaker is the second diesel-electric icebreaker, built by OPK at the request of Rosmorport. It constitutes a two-decked vessel with two propulsors, delivering 16 MW. The displacement totals about 10,000 t, the length totals 116 m. With its 26,5m beam and 8,5m beam, she can reach a speed 17 knots.
