The Subsea UK delegation from a major deepwater exhibition in Monaco returned today buoyed up by new opportunities for their technology.

Industry body, Subsea UK, led a delegation of seven companies to showcase their technologies and expertise at Deep Offshore Technology (DOT) last week. The two day conference and exhibition is one of the most significant deepwater technology events in the world. Decision-makers and engineers from the major exploration and production companies attended to hear reports on the current and future state of technology in deepwater developments.

Among the seven companies who made the trip to the South of France were BEL Valves and First Subsea Ltd., who received a royal visit from in the form of Prince Albert II of Monaco.

First Subsea Ltd demonstrated the capabilities of its mooring and connector technology known as Ballgrab to the Prince.

While Neil Kirkbride of BEL Valves is confident of having secured new business as a direct result of the show. He said: “DOT provided us with a great opportunity to meet key subsea clients and discuss new business opportunities with them. Our new electrically powered subsea actuators received a lot of interest with significant follow up meetings arranged to further discuss this developing area of technology which I am confident will result in new business.”

Commenting on the success of the event, Alistair Birnie, chief executive of Subsea UK said: “Yet again DOT was an excellent opportunity for UK companies to promote their technology to an international audience.

“With subsea technology and skills increasingly required to meet global demand for energy, Subsea UK’s role is to ensure that the UK industry captures a significant share of this growing market, estimated to be worth almost $30 billion.

“Part of Subsea UK’s strategy in maintaining the country’s worldwide prominence in this industry, is to initiate, organise and oversee a series of events which offer new business opportunities and market intelligence. These include inward and outward trade missions, participation at leading subsea events around the world and the creation of new events to meet demand.”
