New DP2 Vessel For VolkerWessels
Last Saturday 6 March Mrs. Balkenende-Hoogendijk, wife of Dutch Prime Minister Balkenende, christened the Stemat Spirit. Built by Stemat Marine Services, it is added to the fleet to support VolkerWessels subsidiary Visser & Smit Marine Contracting (VSMC) with its cable installation projects. The ceremony in Rotterdam was also attended by Mr. Balkenende himself, who took some time to answer a few questions for Offshore Industry.
He stresses the importance of technical innovation and sustainable development, to ensure a strong competitive position for the Netherlands in the shipbuilding and offshore industry: “I see tremendous opportunity for The Netherlands, but the fact is that there is competition everywhere, so it simply requires hard work”.
This special service workboat is planned to work on offshore windfarm projects in the United Kingdom during the next two years.
