Re-instating the MV Transshelf

Haven van MoerdijkVan der Vlist recently received an order to coordinate the receipt of eight substructures and eight grillage elements in Rotterdam, they weighed between 200 and 220t per unit, and the tasks included additional services like removing oil and scrapping materials.

The eight substructures are used as jacking system on the vessel MV Transshelf, to help place big oil platforms on their final position offshore. This platform was delivered to Nigeria for project ‘OFON II’, after which the Dockwise vessel returned with the equipment to Rotterdam where it was prepared and re-instated to a clean condition in order to get the ship ready for another job.

For the re-instatement job Van der Vlist coordinated the receipt of the materials and provided technical staff to assist in unlashing and dismantling of materials on board mv Transshelf before they were discharged on pontoons. Van der Vlist then arranged for the Zwaartransport haven Moerdijkremoval of oil from the jacking units, and scrapping of eight grillage elements along with other materials and transported the eight substructures for long term storage in the Moerdijk facility.

Handling of the big units off quay was done by floating sheerleg, after which the items were moved on the quay with Van der Vlist’s modular trailer equipment to their final storage position, awaiting the next installation job.
