Alderley’s crude oil metering package now in operation at Dunlin Field

Alderley_Dunlin Alpha ProjectAlderley Metering Solutions, a division of Alderley, has recently commissioned a crude oil metering package for the Dunlin Alpha. The metering system is now in operation at the Dunlin field which is situated 506km north-north-east of Aberdeen in block 211/23a of the UK sector of the continental shelf. The contract was awarded by Fairfield Energy Limited who holds the majority (70 percent) stake in the Dunlin cluster with Mitsubishi as its partner.

Alderley Metering Solutions’ scope of supply was for a replacement crude oil metering package consisting of 3 x 50 percent metering streams using Coriolis metering technology, a master meter and associated control panel. Unusually the package was not skid mounted due to very limited offshore access and was therefore designed to be suspended from the overhead steels above a raised mezzanine area. To ensure accuracy of the design a 3D laser scan site survey was completed in advance.

Mark Jackman, Service Manager, Alderley, comments, “We are pleased to be able to work with our client to provide a metering solution designed to suit reduced flow rates from an aging platform and that will support Fairfield’s investment in extending the asset’s life to beyond 2020.”

The package was designed, manufactured and tested at Alderley’s facilities in Gloucestershire prior to being packed into kits for efficient offshore assembly. The commissioning was completed over a four week period by Alderley and AMEC service engineers during a planned platform shutdown.

Alderley Metering Solutions specialises in providing metering solutions for all brownfield modifications and aging systems through their multi-disciplined team of experienced engineers.
