Jevi launches a new compact braking resistor

NaamloosJevi, a Danish supplier of electric heating solutions, has developed a new modular resistor that requires less space, is lighter and can be delivered in shorter time. At ONS 2014, Jevi introduces the new braking resistor that has the smallest footprint on the market and accommodates the needs of a growing offshore industry.

When dealing with the offshore business timely delivery and speedy service is important. Jevi has developed a new braking resistor that accomplishes just that, and on top has an innovative and compact design that makes the braking resistor easy to service.

The breaking resistor dumps electrical braking energy from for example draw works.

“Our new braking resistor has a smaller footprint and requires less space. Therefore the product can be installed and serviced with only 600mm of service space. We have also managed to reduce the weight by 50 percent compared to a traditional resistor. Combined with the smaller size this makes the resistor easier to access and service, because no lifting equipment is required to lift out the modules,” says John Littau, Sales Manager at JEVI.

Reduced delivery time

With the new resistor Jevi has managed to reduce the delivery time considerably which is very important when building an oil rig.

“An oil rig, for example, is built from bottom to top. A braking resistor is placed in the middle, and if it is not delivered on time, it stops the entire construction because it cannot be retrofitted,” says John Littau and continues:

“Because the new resistor is a standardized product we have managed to shorten delivery time on a new product significantly. We also have spare part in stock and can deliver fast if immediate repair is necessary.”
