Exposure Marine wins DAME Design Award

Exposure Marine’s revolutionary new MOB (man over board) light, has achieved top honours, winning the Life Saving and Safety Equipment category at the 2014 DAME Awards, announced this morning at METS.

Exposure’s innovative, immensely powerful MOB strobe and search light, will ensure you can be found fast and does not even need to be switched on! When every second counts in an emergency situation this intelligent motion activated light can be simply thrown towards a person in the water. Using Exposure’s patented Man Over Board Technology (MOBT), this indispensible little light detects its flight through the air, and switches onto strobe mode automatically when it hits the water.

The DAME Design Jury commented “Exposure Marine’s MOB Search Light is a beautifully designed and engineered, pocket-sized, powerful LED torch with several useful functions. Housed in a robust body, the MOB Search Light has a variable output when used in hand, and it floats and automatically enters a very bright strobe mode if dropped into water.” The Jury also liked the MOB’s ability to be charged via a USB lead.

Ian Walker, skipper of Abu Dhabi Ocean Racing in the Volvo Ocean Race, said “Our congratulations to Exposure Marine, from all the Abu Dhabi Ocean Racing Team for an extremely well deserved award.”

Alex Thomson, skipper of Hugo Boss in the forthcoming Barcelona Race also sent his congratulations and said “The power of the MOB light is unbelievable. It is so powerful we call it the ‘Sun’ onboard Hugo Boss as at night we can see the top of our 30m mast like it is daylight – that’s equivalent to a 10 story building! It is incredibly lightweight and for a marine application having a sealed unit is a real plus. We found the indicator light useful for finding the torch when in one of the many cockpit pockets too! Being on top of your sail trim at night just got a whole lot easier!”

Tom Harrop, brand manager at Exposure’s Marine said, “We’re honoured to receive this prestigious DAME Design Award. Exposure’s ethos is about pioneering British innovation together with stylish, compact, lightweight designs. The MOB light illustrates how we continue to revolutionize boating, making it easier and safer than ever to be afloat at night.”

Exposure is one of two British winners of the prestigious DAME Design Awards, which recognise the very best in innovation and design in the marine equipment industry. This years Awards received 116 entries from 23 nations across the globe, and the Exposure MOB Search Light was one of 45 Jury Nominations that went forward for the final judging. The DAME Awards recognise the importance of design and manufacturing quality, product function, aesthetics and ergonomics, ease of use, innovation, cost effectiveness and environmental impact from packaging to end product.

The MOB is on display at METS in Hall 3, Stand 03.233. The exhibition runs 18 – 20 November at the Amsterdam RAI Convention Centre.
