L-3 SAM Electronics to Supply Turnkey Equipment for Two New RollDock Multifunction Vessels


rolldock storm Copyright Zich, FSGL-3 SAM Electronics has successfully completed the supply and installation of an extensive range of electrical and electronic equipment aboard two new sister vessels, RollDock Star and RollDock Storm, for the Dutch shipping concern RollDock. Built by Flensburger Schiffbau-Gesellschaft (FSG), located in northern Germany, the two 8,000dwt multifunction vessels are designed to carry demanding cargo and heavy project loads, mainly for offshore applications.

L-3 SAM Electronics’ equipment consists of a NACOS Platinum navigation system, featuring high-resolution workstations with multipurpose displays for the control of radar, ECDIS, conning and associated functions. The L-3 solution comprises a full range of internal communications systems, as well as a comprehensive range of GMDSS equipment. Automation assembly includes an MCS 2200 monitoring and control system with an extended range of standardized functions that is completed by a Geapas 500 modular power management and protection unit.

Other provided facilities include the overall lighting system, main and emergency switchboards, motor control centers, power and lighting distribution boards, transformers, shore connectors, shaft alternators, and frequency converters for ballast pumps and the bow thruster. As part of the turnkey project, L-3 SAM Electronics assumed responsibility for all cable work, including planning, engineering and installation aboard both vessels.

The Rolldock effort is one of the latest in a series of recently completed turnkey projects undertaken by L-3 SAM Electronics on behalf of leading operators in the world’s shipbuilding industry.
