Alewijnse building momentum in south east asia

First anniversary shows opportunities

Electrical system integrator Alewijnse Marine Systems is celebrating the first anniversary of the establishment of two new subsidiaries in South East Asia; Alewijnse Marine Malaysia and Alewijnse Marine Singapore. Twelve months on and progress is looking good. The new companies have been actively building relationships and winning business, with 19 contracts worth over one million SGD representing a firm start.

tHighlights of the past year include the launch of TOTAL DOCK fleet support services last November, a partnership between Alewijnse, ESI-Willtech and Oliveira. The combination of these three areas of expertise under a single brand has created a single contact-point in the region for clients looking for a varied scope of services, and additional leverage for the Alewijnse brand.

Alewijnse has won a series of smaller projects covering activities including consultancy, delivery of materials, supervision and commissioning, as word has spread regarding the capabilities of the new consortium. This momentum has been supported by an intensive marketing drive culminating in OSEA Singapore in December and the results are very positive. In January 2015 alone, four much more substantial projects were signed, marking an excellent start to the new year.

Meanwhile, the Alewijnse companies are also finding firm demand for their engineering and installation expertise. South East Asia has a shortage of knowledgeable E&I specialists capable of delivering European levels of quality, and the effectiveness of a solutions-led approach is steadily becoming more widely recognised.

The fall in oil prices has, like everywhere else, had an impact on the offshore industry. Many operators in the region expect prices to stay low for at least two years if not longer, and investment plans are being adjusted accordingly. Yet this is presenting opportunities as well as challenges, as customers place additional value on suppliers who have the flexibility to support them as their strategies evolve. In particular, refit, repair and maintenance activities are becoming more significant as new build business slows.

The team has the drive, tenacity and flexibility to grow the Alewijnse footprint in this exciting region and is already demonstrating its prowess by winning business from established operators. It will be further building its profile by organising VIP events during major exhibitions in 2015 including OTC Houston in May, OGA Kuala Lumpur in June and ADIPEC Abu Dhabi in November and so, given the start that it has made in January, prospects look good for 2015!
