Another High-Grade Construction Offshore Tool

DSC_0925-kopieWith its 200-tonne weight and its 32-metre length, the pile gripper tool designed for the Pacific Orca vessel is impressive indeed. Construction company Hillebrand BV from Middelburg (Netherlands) manufactured this offshore wind equipment tool in less than three months for client Bilfinger Marine & Offshore Systems in Hamburg. Hillebrand’s workscope included all the stages of the manufacture: workshop drawings, procurement, construction, coating, testing (FAT and SAT), transport to the harbour of Esbjerg (Denmark), and installing the steel structure on the Pacific Orca.

The pile gripper tool and HSD frame is a complex steel construction and contains a highly advanced hydraulic system. It is designed to install monopiles offshore and is delivered including a soundproof net, in order not to disturb nearby sea life when installing the offshore wind monopiles. Further, Hillebrand’s specially trained offshore crew took care of the mobilisation of the construction at the harbour of Esbjerg. Over the last couple of years Hillebrand had proved to be a prominent player in the offshore (wind) branch.
