Protea Delivers Second Ram-Luffing Crane for Statoil FSU

picture 2Over the last fifteen years Protea has successfully been supplying a wide range of specialist lifting equipment. A 50-tonne SWL ram-luffing crane is the latest addition to its portfolio. The crane recently underwent a comprehensive factory acceptance test (FAT) at Protea’s production facility in Kluczbork in southern Poland and will now be shipped to South Korea for installation on Statoil’s Mariner FSU. The crane is the second in a pair to be delivered for the FSU, which is currently under construction at Samsung Heavy Industries in South Korea. It features a structurally efficient box boom (rather than a more complex lattice boom), two hydraulic cylinders for ram-luffing purposes, and Protea’s latest control system.

“The Proteus ram-luffing crane draws on the knowledge that we have gained from over 37 years of designing, building and operating offshore lifting equipment,” explained Tomasz Paszkiewicz, CEO of Protea. “We have achieved exceptional performance while minimising overall weight, and complying with the EN 13852-1 Offshore Cranes standard, the DNV N Class standard, the latest NORSOK regulations and Statoil’s internal requirements. It is probably the highest specification offshore crane that has been delivered to date.”

Following delivery, it will installed by Protea’s commissioning team using its extensive experience gained while working at a number of shipyards and offshore rigs including those in the UK, Norway, Singapore, Australia, Malaysia, China and South Korea.

Tomasz Paszkiewicz, Managing Director of Protea, adds: “The cranes clearly demonstrate our capabilities as a turnkey supplier of high-quality offshore lifting equipment from concept development, detail design through to production, installation and commissioning. We look forward to delivering similar cranes in the future,” comments Mr Paszkiewicz.
