Go Ahead for Hornsea 2

Hornsea 2 Map

The Hornsea 2 offshore wind farm project has gained planning consent from the UK government. New Business & Energy Secretary, Greg Clark, has approved the project, located 89km off the coast of Yorkshire. Hornsea 2 is being developed by SMartWind, owned by DONG Energy. Consisting of 360 turbines, it will have a capacity of up to 1.8 GW and will meet the electricity needs of around 1.8 million UK homes per year.

Hornsea 2 is the second project for Dong in the Hornsea region. The first project, Hornsea 1, is located 120km off the Yorkshire coast. With 240 turbines, Hornsea 1 will have a total capacity of up to 1.2GW, which will be able to meet the electricity needs of around 800,000 UK homes once completed in 2020. Offshore wind is already on track to meet 10% of the UK’s total electricity demand by 2020 and the Hornsea project will help the Government meet its target of 10GW installed by that time.
