Surveyor Interceptor ROV Hits New Depth Record

Surveyor Interceptor ROVDuring MMTs participation in the Black Sea Maritime Archaeological Project (MAP), their Surveyor Interceptor ROV (SROV) set new records for both its depth of 1,800m and its sustained speed of over 6 knots, covering a distance of 1,000km.

The SROV was originally developed for the oil and gas industry, but is capable of inspecting and exploring various seabed-mapping projects. The MAP-project consisted of detailed seabed mapping, inspections and geotechnical sampling in close co-operation with the project’s scientific team, and was performed from the vessel Stril Explorer.

The Survey Interceptor, jointly owned by MMT and Reach Subsea, has a speed of four to six knots, three to four times as fast as conventional ROVS. It carries a multibeam and sidescan sonar, sub-bottom profiler, HD cameras, powerful lights and a laser scanner.
