Major Offshore Decom Project for Heerema

Heerema Marine Contractors Nederland (HMC) and partner AF Gruppen (AFG) have received notice that ConocoPhillips Skandinavia intend to enter into a contract with HMC for the removal and disposal of platforms connected to the Ekofisk field in the North Sea.

The contract includes Engineering, Preparation, Removal & Disposal (EPRD) of four platforms with a total tonnage of approximately 36,000t. The platforms are to be removed and disposed of from 2017 to 2022. The Ekofisk field in the North Sea was discovered in 1969 and today it is Norway’s biggest producing oilfield.

In 2011 the Norwegian Parliament approved plans for development and operations of new projects, Ekofisk South and Eldfisk II. With these two projects, ConocoPhillips is poised to remain a key player on the Norwegian shelf up to 2050 and beyond. The projects include modifications to existing platforms and infrastructure, new pipelines and the drilling of new wells.

Ekofisk 2/4L, the new accommodation and field centre platform, is an important part of the renewal of the Ekofisk Complex and the area in general. With 552 single-bed cabins, Ekofisk 2/4L will be the largest hotel platform in the North Sea.
