Wilson Sons Shipyard Delivers Second Tugboat to SAAM SMIT


SST-Aruá is the second in a series of four tugboats to be delivered to SAAM SMIT.Wilson Sons Shipyard, part of the Wilson Sons Group, has delivered the SST-Aruá to SAAM SMIT Towage Brazil. The SST-Aruá is the second tugboat in a total order of four. The first of the series, the SST-Aimoré, was delivered in June this year.

“From the moment of signing the contract, it took just over 18 months to deliver the second tugboat. In a challenging time for the shipbuilding industry, Wilson Sons Shipyard could again show their strength and resilience,” said Adalberto Souza, the director of Wilson Sons Shipyard. The SST-Aruá was built in Guarujá (SP). The tugboat is 24m in length, 11m in beam and has a bollard pull of 71t. The project was designed by Damen Shipyards.

“Again, we are very satisfied with this cooperation, with the quality of the vessel and with the commitment of Wilson Sons Shipyard in the anticipation of these deliveries, which will begin operations in the port of Santos,” said Pieter van Stein, CEO of SAAM SMIT Towage Brazil. Wilson Sons Shipyard has another four tugboats in their order book for delivery up to 2019, comprising two tugboats for SAAM SMIT and another two for Wilson Sons Rebocadores.
