deckWatch Nominated for Dame Award

deckWatch DAME Award nathVesper Marine’s deckWatch smartwatch app has been nominated for the prestigious DAME Design Award in the Lifesaving and Safety Equipment category. The winners will be announced at the upcoming METSTRADE in Amsterdam.

“We are very excited to have the opportunity to showcase deckWatch and our smartAIS technology at METSTRADE this year,” says Jeff Robbins, CEO at Vesper Marine. “To be nominated alongside truly innovative products is an honour. We look forward to the final results.”

The new app sends safety data and alerts to a smartwatch directly over Wi-Fi from Vesper Marine smartAIS transponders, without the need of a phone or tablet to relay the information. Users can view AIS targets on a smartwatch with a graphical depiction of bearing, range, Closest Point of Approach (CPA) and Time to Closest Point of Approach (TCPA) from the perspective of the boat. Targets are prioritized in order of collision risk. If a collision alarm is triggered, users can see the alarm on their smartwatch, allowing them to immediately change course or contact the other vessel.

With Anchor Watch, users simply tap their smartwatch to mark the precise location when the anchor is dropped, as well as monitor if the anchor is dragging. If the boat drifts outside the selected swinging radius, the smartAIS transponder sounds an alarm and users can check the bearing and range of the boat from the marked anchor position on Deckwatch to take any necessary action.

In man overboard situations, Vesper Marine smartAIS offers users a unique and potentially lifesaving feature. The powerful and versatile system works seamlessly with any brand of man overboard device and, when a MOB situation is encountered, it triggers a dedicated audible alarm. The user can simultaneously view the alert on their smartwatch with continuously updated bearing and range to the person in the water. In addition to alarms, NMEA 2000 and NMEA 0183 information, such as depth, speed, wind speed and position are available for at-a-glance accessibility, anywhere on the boat.
