CrewEmail By Marlink

marlink_web1Marlink, the world’s largest maritime satellite communications provider, has launched CrewEmail a new email and SMS solution which can be fully integrated with a vessel’s existing Inmarsat or Iridium hardware to provide ship operators and crew with a familiar and simple to use service.

Users of the new system can take advantage of a straightforward email and SMS send and reply service, which enables vital contact with friends and family while at sea. Furthermore CrewEmail can be accessed remotely via the public Internet enabling customers to use the same service from any location ashore. This allows crew members moving to a new CrewEmail equipped ship to redirect emails and internet credits to their new location, without changing email address.

“As part of recruiting and retaining skilled crew, it is essential for ship operators to ensure employees are able to stay in touch with friends and family while at sea. CrewEmail is a cost effective system which provides an easy to use email and SMS service that can be accessed onboard the vessel or on shore,” comments Tore Morten Olsen, CEO, Marlink.

CrewEmail enables ship operators to efficiently control email usage onboard via a prepaid or quota system. The prepaid service requires crew members to purchase prepaid cards in order to gain access to the system.

Alternatively, the quota system enables the operator to allocate a specific amount of usage to each crew member. When a crew member exceeds the allocated amount, he/she can purchase a prepaid top up card for additional access.

With low installation cost and administration overhead, CrewEmail is a cost effective solution. A number of payment options are available, including pay-as-you-use via on-demand services Inmarsat or Iridium. Prepaid Internet and calling cards can be sold to crew members onboard or given as rewards and incentives, with management in control of the email sent usage.
