Aberdeen’s leading commercial law firm, Paull & Williamsons has announced a senior appointment to its highly regarded upstream oil & gas team. Brian Hemming joins the firm as a partner following his move from Maersk Oil North Sea UK Limited where he was a member of the senior management team and Director of Legal, Contracts and Business Relations. Brian is a highly respected oil and gas lawyer with nearly 20 years experience in the upstream business. He has participated in wider industry issues through the UK Operators Legal Committee, which he chaired from September 2007 to April 2009. Paull & Williamsons has more Aberdeen based senior oil & gas focussed lawyers than any other firm. It has a strong reputation for acquisitions, financing and projects as well as for health & safety and employment work. Recent highlights include negotiating the sale of interests in the Breagh field for Sterling Resources, advising ITS Tubular Services in relation to its growth capital financing, acting for Tendeka BV in the acquisition of Middle East well completions business Flotech Holdings and advising the management team in the MBO of Oceanteam Subsea Services.

Brian’s appointment is further evidence of the firm’s strategy to continue to expand its offering to the industry despite the difficult economic times, and follows shortly after the recruitment of employment specialists David Burnside and Tricia Walker.

Paull & Williamsons partner Bruce McLeod said: “We have built an upstream team that has commercial judgement and a detailed understanding of the breadth of issues faced in A&D transactions, with a good balance of senior in-house expertise and private practice corporate deal making. We are looking forward to working with Brian to further develop our services to the industry.”
