GBP 1 Million Contract For Macduff Shipyards


rayshaw_webAberdeen Harbour has awarded Macduff Shipyards the contract to build a new workboat. The GBP 1 million vessel, inclusive of its high-tech survey suite is due for delivery in 2011, and will replace the port’s existing workboat. It will be fitted with twin 350hp engines, a deck crane and at 14 metres in length, will be used for general harbour activities including surveying, plough dredging and debris recovery.

We have an excellent track record of working with the team at Macduff, as fabricators of our pilot boat the Sea Shepherd. The new workboat will make an important contribution to the harbour’s capabilities and efficiency of operations. As one of the UK’s busiest ports, our main aim is to continue to invest in providing the very best service and facilities for our customers.”

Director of Macduff Shipyards, Bill Farquhar said: “We are delighted Aberdeen Harbour has awarded us this contract. We pride ourselves in commitment to quality and we are pleased that the port has returned to the yard once again.” Aberdeen Harbour handles around five million tonnes of cargo, valued at GBP 1.5 billion, and high levels of shipping for a wide range of industries. With more than GBP 200 million invested by the Board in the last thirty years, the port is one of the most modern in Europe.
