First Lady Names ShipConstructor Designed Vessel

obamastratton_webOn Friday 23 July, First Lady of the United States, Michelle Obama christened the US Coast Guard Cutter Stratton, a vessel that was detail designed and production engineered by Northrop Grumman using ShipConstructor CAD/CAM software. The ship is named in honour of Dorothy Constance Stratton, the first female commissioned officer in Coast Guard history and director of the Women’s Reserve during World War II.

obamastratton_web2Stratton is the first Coast Guard patrol cutter to be named after a woman in more than twenty years. As with the Coast Guard’s previous two National Security Cutters, Northrop Grumman utilised ShipConstructor’s AutoCAD based CAD/CAM software to construct this 418 ft long vessel. All of the individual piece parts required to build the project were easily managed via ShipConstructor’s Marine Information Modeling system.
