Jeppesen’s Piracy Update Awarded

jep_webJeppesen‘s Piracy Update product, which combines navigational charts with up-to-date information regarding piracy surveillance and incidents, won the first ever Safety at Sea International Security Award on 22 June. The award was created by Safety at Sea International magazine to single out an innovative and original product with potential to improve security on board and on shore.

Jeppesen Piracy Update was introduced in 2009 to provide ship officers and managers with a new decision-making tool that helps them minimize the risk of pirate attack. The solution integrates detailed chart and weather information with daily updates on piracy surveillance and incidents from leading governmental and military sources, compiled by Bergen Risk Solutions. With Jeppesen Piracy Update, the route planning process can easily incorporate the location of recent pirate activity and weather conditions that hamper pirates’ effectiveness.

“We are proud and honored to receive this Safety at Sea International Security Award”, said Bjorn Age Hjollo, product manager for Jeppesen Piracy Update. “Our aim has been to provide the shipping industry with intelligence and awareness that they can use to safeguard their operations. This award and growing interest from customers who adopt the service reflect the value of Jeppesen Piracy Update.”
