Born to Sail

cognit_designAtollvic Shipyard, the superyacht construction and refit specialist based in Vigo, Spain, has partnered with Cognit Design, design and engineering branch of Totalmar Group, on an innovative new 30m sloop; Anegada Cay. When commissioned, the sloop will be built by Atollvic. “Agility and performance were a structural part of the concept from the start. This is a boat born to sail”, commented designer Alberto Fernandez of Totalmar.

Anegada Cay’s structural design has been carefully considered, to incorporate all necessary interior arrangements and equipment. With all this information to hand, the designers could consequently ensure that there were no surprises to come and they could concentrated on designing a yacht of exceptional performance, lightness and functionality.

Several technical innovations were employed. For example, canting keels and retractable propellers to dramatically increase the yacht’s performance. A ballast tank system has also allowed a reduction in draft to enable the vessel to moor up in sheltered anchorages, providing a significant benefit to the owner wanting to access cruising places only normally available to much smaller boats. The yacht has been designed to be equally suitable for mooring at the marina, crossing the sea or anchoring by a beach. Designer Alberto Fernandez, of Cognit Design, said of the Anegada Cay: “It has been designed with the discerning sailor in mind and, while inspired by tradition, it features modern and innovative solutions. The result is a performance sail yacht capable of high speeds under sail. Agility and performance were a structural part of the concept from the start. This is a boat born to sail.”
