Icota Has Announced Innovation Award Winner


icota-2-1The Intervention and Coiled Tubing Association (ICoTA) has jointly awarded BP Exploration and Baker Hughes the European Chapter Innovation Award for the application of technical innovation in the area of well intervention. Presented with a trophy and award at the SPE/ICoTA European Well Intervention Round Table in Aberdeen, the companies were acknowledged for pushing the boundaries of concentric coiled tubing technology to resurrect sub-hydrostatic gas wells.

tThe companies were acknowledged for pushing the boundaries of concentric coiled tubing technology to resurrect sub-hydrostatic gas wells. on an unmanned offshore installation in the Ravenspurn North gas field in the Southern North Sea. This extremely challenging project has resulted in a more certain future for the field as well as unlocking opportunities in deep depleted gas wells in the UKCS and elsewhere. Petroleum engineer at BP, Matthew Dunning said: “Successful execution of this project represents an important milestone in BP’s strategy of maximising recovery from mature fields and further underlines BP’s commitment to the UKCS.” ICoTA Europe chairman, Daniele Petrone said: “We would like to congratulate BP Exploration and Baker Hughes on achieving this award. Their success in pushing forward the boundaries of well intervention and coiled tubing technology will be recognised through ICoTA internationally and the wider industry.  “We received a high calibre of entries this year, highlighting the many exciting new technologies being deployed in well intervention, and existing technologies being used in an innovative way. This award also supports our aims of enhancing communication, gathering technical expertise and promoting safety, competency and industry accepted practices.”
