john thoulessEnergy consultancy Xodus Group today revealed it has won a significant three year contract with SSE Renewables to carry out an Environment Impact Assessment (EIA) for the Costa Head offshore wave site, north of Mainland Orkney. The Aberdeen headquartered consultancy which also has offices in Orkney, Edinburgh and London, has been retained as lead consultant for the environmental impact assessment for the wave development site and grid connection works. The latest contract builds on Xodus Group’s growing portfolio of marine energy clients, with around  GBP 500,000 of current projects in the Pentland Firth and Orkney waters. SSE Renewables has exclusive rights to develop the Costa Head offshore wave site which is expected to generate up to 200 MW of energy. The development is part of the world’s first commercial leasing programme for wave and tidal energy generation projects undertaken by The Crown Estate.

John Thouless, Head of Marine Development at SSE Renewables said: “The Pentland Firth and Orkney Waters projects are a significant milestone for the tidal and wave industry and the EIA works represents one of the key site development activities. We are delighted to award this contract to Xodus and look forward to working closely together to develop a successful proposal for the Costa Head offshore wave project.”
