Carbon Offset Shipyard

superyacht_shipyardSince 2009, Barcelona based shipyard MB´92 has invited refit clients to join its carbon offset programme, compensating for the emissions produced from using shore power.  The shipyard has then matched its clients’ action by carbon offsetting an equivalent quantity of energy itself. MB’92’s optional programme continues to attract participation and is delivered in partnership with Yacht Carbon Offset.

MB´92’s Bob Wagemakers, said “It is great to see the level of interest in this project amongst so many of our superyacht clients. The total amount of electricity that was included in our offsets in 2010 was over 80% greater than in 2009.”

Yacht Carbon Offset’s Managing Director Mark Robinson added: “The carbon footprint from shore power is normally a fraction of the total footprint of the yacht, so MB’92’s initiative is a great way to introduce the concept on board at minimal cost. Captains and managers can then consider the benefits for the Owner (and the modest cost) of extending their offsetting to cover the fuel used on board. Month by month, more large yachts bring in Yacht Carbon Offset as a standard part of their environmental management programme.  We are delighted to be working with MB’92 and thank the whole team, and of course the participating yachts, for their continued support.”
