Helping To Protect The New QE Liner

664-pr-pic-webBoll & Kirch filters have been fitted to the new Queen Elizabeth Liner for Carnival. Built at the Fincantieri Shipyard in Trieste, Italy, the third  luxury liner to bear the name Queen Elizabeth joins the Queen Victoria and Queen Mary as the latest addition to the Cunard fleet. Costing GBP 365 million and weighing 92,000 t, the Queen Elizabeth can accommodate over 2,000 guests within an ‘art deco’  themed interior.

Bollfilter UK has worked with Carnival for over 20 years, supplying spares and service support for the many Boll & Kirch filters on board their ships.  The Queen Elizabeth is fitted with a number of automatic 6.64.07 DN150 & DN200 as well as numerous simplex and duplex manual filter systems to provide filtration protection for the main engine lube oil diesel generators.
In order to make sure that the filters are maintained in optimum condition, Janine Harris, Spares Manager, visited the vessel in Trieste to take a register of the filters onboard and prepared a recommended onboard spares inventory. Tailor made O&M manuals were also given to the vessel. In addition to a regular annual service visit, when the ship is based in Southampton, Michael Chadwick, Service Manager, is providing complimentary training to onboard staff in servicing and maintaining the filter systems.

Long-Term Relationships
Chief Engineer, Colin Black, recognises the importance of developing long-term relationships with suppliers. “We have a Global Framework Agreement with Bollfilter that enables us to obtain the very best prices for our spares worldwide. It is vital that we maintain all the engine room equipment to the highest standards in order to prevent any risk of engine damage or failure. To that effect, we make sure that we only fit genuine Boll & Kirch spare parts and work closely with Bollfilter UK to plan our servicing and training programme.”
