‘Blue Diamonds’

foto-bij-persbericht-nml-d-d-21-aprilThe Dutch maritime sector presented four central themes it wants to excel in over the coming years, 21 April last at the offices of the Holland Shipbuilding Association. Mrs Annemieke Nijhof, Director-General Water at the Dutch Ministry of Infrastructure and the Environment was handed over the recommendations by Mr Sjef van Dooremalen, chairman of the association’s steering committee Maritime.

Mrs Nijhof stated she was pleasantly surprised by the practicality of the propositions and the impressive list of supporting companies – according to a statement issued by the Holland Shipbuilding Association. Loosely translated the four ‘Blue Diamonds’ defined are: Mining at Sea, Cleaning Ship, the Smart Ship, and the Networked Ship.

Business Opportunities
The coming weeks these themes will be worked out into business opportunities.  According to Van Dooremalen these are new ‘new frontiers’, in which the Dutch maritime sector can excel. Mrs Nijhof committed herself to participate in thinking about regulatory aspects, launching customership and helping to turn chances into reality by targeted investments, according to the association’s statement.
