Burger Launches 60′ Research Vessel Coregonus

all-alu_webBurger Boat Company has launched the Coregonus, a 60′ research vessel for the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, for delivery later this month. The Coregonus is replacing the Barney Devine, a steel fishing tug built by Burger in 1937. Vripack engineered the little ship to the latest standards using its proprietary Smart Kit technology which allowed her to be built faster, stiffer and straighter than ever before.

SeaCraft Design in Sturgeon Bay, WI designed the Coregonus for the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources to meet the demanding requirements of the department. The all-aluminum welded vessel is engineered by Vripack with a clear view on efficient production and cutting precious building time. By making use a smart sub-assemblies, units and even setting up a new internal yard layout, Burger and Vripack are very pleased with the results.

Fully Equipped
coregenus_webTwin Caterpillar C12 diesel engines will provide the Coregonus a cruising speed of 20 knots. An onboard laboratory, gill net fishing equipment, trawl net reel, folding dive platform, crane and hydro-acoustic gear makes the Coregonus a versatile research vessel that can be used in all but the most extreme sea conditions. In addition, the pilothouse windshield and open aft deck are heated to prevent icing during winter operations.

Delivery
The Coregonus will be delivered to the Fisheries Department later this month following sea trials. Burger, established in 1863, has a long tradition of designing and building a diverse range of vessels including custom pleasure yachts and commercial vessels such as fishing boats, passenger vessels, tugs, push boats, ferries, mine sweepers, and sub chasers.
