Bakker Sliedrecht’s Developments in China

bakker-sliedrect_offshore-industryBakker Sliedrecht has recently been granted the delivery of electrical equipment and systems for new ships to be built in Chinese shipyards. One order was granted by Jiangsu Haixin Ship Heavy Industry Co  to supply a series of four submersible motors for driving a submerged dredge pump and cutter on a cutter suction dredger, which is under construction now. The IP68 motors, designed for a working depth up till 35 m below the waterline, have a rated power of 1400 kW.

Also, the motors are specially designed to cope with the harsh conditions onboard this kind of dredging vessels. They provide the best quality and endurance possible with today’s technology, which is the main reason for the customer to choose for Bakker.

Design
The design of these motors is similar to those delivered to another Chinese customer: Qingdao Beiya Construction Co.,Ltd. For both projects Bakker strongly co-operates with the design-specialists of Shangai Jiao Tong University. Previously this year Bakker Sliedrecht already has been granted another project for the Chinese market from USA based dredge pump manufacturer GIW. The 4.500 kW oil filled submersible motor will be directly mounted to the impellor of the pump thus improving efficiency and reliability. The combination of motor and pump will be delivered through GIW to Tianjin Dredging Company in 2012.

ZPMC / Boskalis
From Shanghai Zhenhua Heavy Industries Co., Ltd (ZPMC), Bakker received the order to supply the main electrical equipment to be installed on a new cable laying vessel for the Dutch contractor Boskalis. The contract comprises the design and delivery of the switchboards, the multi drive systems for the thrusters and winches, the AMS/PMS system which is based on Bakker’s own BIMAC platform, as well as the Kongsberg DP system. In addition Bakker will be responsible for the system integration.
