type-0_offshore_industryDockwise has confirmed its first contract for the new Type 0 vessel. By the end of 2012 and immediately upon delivery of the vessel by Hyundai Heavy Industries, the vessel will transport the Jack St. Malo platform hull from Korea to the US Gulf of Mexico. While initially in the form of an intent, the selection of  Type 0 now has been confirmed by Chevron, the operator of the Jack St. Malo floating production platform.  Type 0 will bring the Dockwise heavy transport fleet to a total of nineteen units.

“We are pleased with the trust Chevron places in the capabilities of the new vessel and the commitment of Dockwise’s management and staff to make this first assignment of the vessel a success. Also, this commitment is a very clear sign that this vessel will rapidly earn its place in the market and, as indicated earlier, has the potential to create a new market of its own”, comments André Goedée, Dockwise’s CEO.

Transport Capacity
The Type 0 will be able to submerge deeper than 13 m and take up to 16 m of water over her deck to load structures up to 110,000 t. Construction of this one-of-a-kind super vessel has commenced at the yards of Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) of South Korea and is scheduled for delivery in the last quarter of 2012

A full article about the Type 0 vessel will be published in Offshore Industry vol 4, issue 4, which will be released at the end of August.
