Fairmount Expedition Delivers Castor Topside In Spain

expeditoncastor-topside1_200Fairmount Marine‘s powerful tug Fairmount Expedition has safely delivered a 18,000t topside for process, utilities and living quarters for the Castor project – a 1,3billion cu. m submarine gas storage project, 12 miles from the Mediterannean shore of Spanish Valencia. Fairmount Marine, part of Louis Dreyfus Armateurs Group, was hired by Heerema Marine Contractors for getting the topside from Corpus Christi, US, where is was built, across the North Atlantic to the Mediterranean.

The topside was loaded onto Heerema’s H-541 barge, which was mobilised from Vlissingen, the Netherlands first, and towed from Corpus Christi towards Spain. The total 12,068 mile voyage – from Vlissingen to Corpus Christi and back to Tarragona, Spain, took just 50 days – making for a just-in-time delivery by the Fairmount Expedition.
