MTU Power for Brazil Tugs

starnav-siriusBrazilian shipyard Detroit Brasil is building two new MTU-powered handling tugs for Petrobras and Repsol service provider Starnav. Responsible for supporting the platform supply vessels, the two tugs each feature two MTU Series 4000 “Ironmen” engines rated at 2,000 kW at 1,800 rpm.

Detroit Brasil Ltda has already brought three similar Line Handling Tugs of 70 tons of bollard pull with the same engine type into the waters of the operator Starnav in Macae, state of Rio de Janeiro. Starnav’s current fleet includes seven vessels, six of which are powered by MTU engines. Additional tug boats are planned to be powered by MTU to increase the number of available vessels.
