Offshore Industry Vol.6 No.2

In this issue of OSI – hitting mailboxes just before OTC 2013 (3 May) and of course available in Houston, too – we get up close with the heavyweights of heavy lift. On the cover, Saipem sets the tone with its semi-submersible crane and J-lay vessel Saipem 7000 at the Keppel Verolme yard. We take a look at the yard’s offshore projects. Heavy lift continues with a close look at Conquest Offshore’s new mid-range crane barge, which is generating a lot of interest among offshore operators and marshalling yards. Also in this issue we report from Germany, where we witnessed the launch of Liebherr’s new subsea crane and its active heave compensation innovations. The Floating Super Pallets from Dockwise provide another heavy lift solution – module logistics for downstream applications.

We also visited Brazil, where SBM Offshore’s recent award from Petrobras got us thinking about the FPSO fabrication and logistics challenges resulting from local content regulations. We visited the Brasa yard, where the topside modules will take shape. Finally, the wind sector continues apace. The Anholt wind farm is nearing completion – we dive into the construction phases in this issue. Finally, Hydrasun share their knowledge of managing the integrity of flexible hose assemblies and small bore tubing – not only the safety concerns, but also cost benefits that operators need to know about.
