Second Jumbo Heavy Lift Vessel

jumbo-heavy-liftDutch-based heavy lift transporter Jumbo Shipping ordered a second new top-segment heavy lift vessel, thereby confirming its option for a sister ship to the new build currently under construction at Brodosplit shipyard in Croatia. Jumbo also decided to upgrade the lifting capacity of the ice class vessels from 1,300 to 1,500mt, enabling tandem lifts of 3,000mt.

In July last year, Jumbo announced the order for the first K-class vessel. The design incorporates Finnish-Swedish ice class 1A (thus ideal for projects in Arctic regions) and each vessel will be prepared for DP2 installation. The first vessel will be in active service in the autumn of 2013. The sister ship will follow some six months later. Jumbo also confirmed an option on a third vessel.

Jumbo stated that by upgrading their lifting capacity, the new vessels will comfortably surpass the capability of other vessels in their class and reassert Jumbo’s leading market position.
