Ampelmann Back on Smit Taklift Barge
The Ampelmann system is back on a Smit Taklift barge exactly four years since the offshore hydraulic gangway appeared on the market. Ampelmaan currently has 10 systems in operation around the world.
The Ampelmann system compensates all ship motions and enables crew transfers between work boats and offshore structures even in high waves. Four years ago on the Smit Taklift 4, the system proved extremely useful in transferring engineers from the barge to an offshore platform that was in the process of being dismantled. Since then more than 140,000 offshore transfers have been performed safely accompanied by a safety record of zero LTI’s (Lost Time Incidents).
Ampelmann also contributes to improved productivity by enabling the continuation of work, where this used to be delayed due to adverse weather.
