Gastech Speakers Announced
At Gastech 2012 some of the world’s most influential energy figures will explain how advances in technology are driving the global gas industry. Now in its 40th year, the Gastech exhibition in October is a showcase for innovation, technologies, products, services and suppliers involved in the energy industry and is free to attend.
Technical providers including Petrobras, CB&I, Air Products, KBR and Petrofac will be in attendance at the exhibition which comprises a range of upstream, midstream and downstream contractors and service providers. More than 85 per cent of exhibition space has already been sold, with more than 350 international exhibitors confirmed and 10,000 visitors and 2,000 delegates from across the entire gas supply chain expected to attend.
Gastech will also see the return of the Centres of Technical Excellence (CoTEs) – on the exhibition floor which are free to attend educational theatres dedicated to developments in gas technology, and feature key associations and companies involved in driving technological advancements within the industry. Touching upon all areas of the gas supply chain, the 12 CoTEs streams will feature content based on the upstream, midstream and downstream sectors. They include gas processing; unconventional gas; floating LNG; cryogenics; LNG as a shipping fuel; offshore and subsea technology; pipelines and transmission; power generation; carbon capture and storage; health, safety and environment; UK innovation; and latest technologies.
The streams will be presented and moderated by representatives of leading industry associations including John Sheffield of the Gas Processors Association Europe (GPAE); Dr Bob Allwood, chief executive of the Society for Underwater Technology (SUT); Jeff Chapman, chief executive of the Carbon Capture and Storage Association (CCSA); Dr Paul Jukes, Fellow with the Institute of Marine Engineering, Science & Technology (IMarEST) and president of MCS Kenny; and John Crawford, deputy director of the UK Trade and Investment (UKTI) energy team.
Mr Crawford said: “Over 100 years of onshore exploration and 40 years in the North Sea have given UK companies unrivalled expertise in exploration, production, transmission and distribution. UK gas technologies are at the forefront of utilisation, safety and the environmental sector. UKTI is proud to be associated with CoTEs and appreciates the platform it allows to showcase the best in UK energy expertise.”
The potential for using LNG to meet the challenge of marine emission targets will be tackled by Lloyd’s Register. Nick Brown, the Marine Communications Manager for Lloyd’s Register, said: “LNG has emerged as a potential fuel of the future. It is already in use in some short sea applications but can it make the leap to global availability? Technical, operational and commercial considerations need to be addressed to enable the widespread adoption of LNG as a marine fuel. Accordingly, Lloyd’s Register, the leader in LNG carrier classification, has developed a “LNG as a Shipping Fuel” CoTE programme to help answer the big picture, ‘Is LNG the marine fuel of the future?’.”
Dr Paul Jukes said: “The CoTE seminars offer an excellent opportunity for IMarEST to present its expertise and to be associated with the Gastech brand. Through the IMarEST participation at the CoTE seminars we see the opportunity to reach out to the industry, attract new members and create greater awareness of the work of the Institute. We are in the process of developing the Offshore Special Interest Group (SIG) and see our participation in the CoTE seminars playing an important part in this task.”
