Damen Deliver PSV For Long-Term Petrobras Contract

CMM Delivery 1 kopieCMM (Compagnie Maritime Monegasque) is a Monaco-based ship owning company specialising in offshore support vessels. They took delivery, on 17 April, of a Damen Platform Supply Vessel 3300. The CMM Gravity will be deployed, as of June, in Brazilian waters for a 4+4 years contract with Petrobras. CMM Gravity increases both CMM’s offshore industry credentials and Damen’s presence in Brazilian waters.

The delivery marks a step towards CMM’s goal of offshore expansion with increasing OSV capabilities. The vessel, CMM Gravity, has been constructed at Damen Shipyards Galati in Romania to Petrobras specifications, including Petrobras Annex V. She is the yard’s seventh delivery of the new mid-size PSV 3300 design.

Quality & Sophistication

Speaking of CMM’s expansion plans, President of the company Christophe Vancauwenbergh said, “We are proud to have been awarded the Petrobras long-term charter contract. Our goal is to be a proactive service provider with a focus on the ever more demanding needs of our clients in conjunction with delivering quality and technical sophistication.”

Explaining CMM’s choice of Damen to construct their vessel, Mr Vancauwenbergh continued, “We therefore have sought the added value of an experienced top-shelf shipbuilder. Their rapid global service and backing added to this.”

CMM Delivery 2 kopieStriking Vessel

CMM Gravity is a striking vessel, featuring Damen’s bulbless axe bow and painted in CMM’s corporate bright red colour. She has a 728m2 deck with a 1,500t deck load capacity and extensive tank facilities, for both liquid and bulk. Her DP2 system relies on four generator sets, two azimuth thrusters and two bow thrusters. She is 80 x 16.2m, weighs 3,300t and can reach 14 knots. Her Lloyd’s Register classification means CMM can deploy her worldwide.

Strengthened Position

Damen Sales Manager for the Americas Rutger Dolk expressed his hope that the successful delivery would lead to further work with CMM as they continue to penetrate further into the offshore industry. “From this first order we hope that CMM will let us support their ambition to expand worldwide. This new order further strengthens our position in the Brazilian offshore market. When CMM’s vessel will be deployed in June 2014 it will lift the number of Damen-designed Offshore Support Vessels operating for Petrobras in Brazilian waters to over twenty vessels.”

CMM Gravity follows the delivery, in December last year, of the final of six Damen PSV 3300s to Norwegian company World Wide Supply.  In addition Switzerland-based Promar has ordered two PSV 3300s for use in West Africa. The two are expected to be delivered in February and August next year.
