FPSO Cidade de Mangaratiba leaves the yard for pre-salt operations
16 August, the Schahin – Modec consortium, hired by Petrobras to build and operate the FPSO Cidade de Mangaratiba, initiated the process of moving the vessel out of the BrasFels shipyard, in Angra dos Reis. This platform vessel will operate in the Iracema South area of the Lula field, connected to wells in the pre-salt layer of the Santos Basin, off the coast of Rio de Janeiro state.
Working with a 65 percent local content, the construction and integration of modules in Brazil involved four worksites in the state of Rio de Janeiro, at Itaguaí, Ilha do Fundão, Niterói and Angra dos Reis, plus one in Bahia state.
Anchored 240km offshore, in 2,200m of water, the Cidade de Mangaratiba will be connected to eight production and eight injection wells and has the capacity to produce 150,000 barrels of oil and compress 8 million cubic meters of natural gas per day, and storage capacity for 1.6 million barrels of oil. Furthermore, it has an injection capacity of 240,000 barrels of water per day. The vessel’s oil production should start in the fourth quarter of this year.
An FPSO is a floating unit for the production, storage and offloading of oil. They are platform vessels designed to separate the oil from the gas and water during the production process, store it in tanks and then transfer it to the oil tankers that will handle the transportation. Meanwhile, the gas that is produced is pumped to shore by pipeline.
