L-3 SAM Electronics to Supply Bridge Equipment for New Greek Luxury Yacht

70GOLD EXT REND 121214 01eL-3 SAM Electronics announced that it has been awarded a contract to provide its NACOS Platinum Automation Navigation Control System aboard O’Pari3 for Golden Yachts. Built at Lamda Nafs Shipyard Greece, the new 72m-long, 1,166gt luxury megayacht will be available for chartering and is slated for delivery in April 2015.

“We are extremely pleased to be selected to deliver NACOS Platinum for the well-known yacht construction company, Golden Yachts,” said Maik Stoevhase, senior vice president of L-3 MSI’s Automation, Navigation and Communication business. “This order is further testament to our continued commitment to supplying the world’s yacht business with the most technically superior solutions available.”

The NACOS Platinum navigation system comprises two IP radars linked via an Ethernet ring to three multifunction Multipilot workstations for the combined display of ARPA radar, ECDIS and conning information, in addition to displays for automatic steering and voyage planning operations. The scope of supply will also include an Ecdispilot workstation for route and schedule planning, monitoring capabilities and a complete set of subsidiary sensors, as well as the provision of a full range of GMDSS communications equipment.

The ship’s control system will be completed using L-3’s MCS Platinum automated monitoring and control system, with approximately 820 data inputs remotely controlled from three multifunction displays and five duty alarm panels, as well as an integrated power management system to control two diesel generators and an emergency generator.

Both of the Platinum automation and navigation systems will be integrated and share common hardware components. This improves the availability of information among the ship’s systems and ensures lower life-cycle costs from a maintenance point of view.

The O’Pari3 megayacht project is the latest in a series of over 50 luxury yacht undertakings carried out by L-3 SAM Electronics involving the provision of diesel-electric propulsion, power supply, automation, navigation and dynamic positioning, communications, entertainment, lighting and sound equipment, as well as safety and security facilities and associated cabling and installation work.
