20150821 - PTA.jpgce75ed8e-d2bd-4c6b-8905-da78f9c7e59aPort of Amsterdam is acquiring a majority stake (51%) in Passenger Terminal Amsterdam (PTA) from NS Stations effective 30 December 2015. Port of Amsterdam currently holds 49% of the shares in PTA. This means PTA will become a wholly-owned subsidiary of Havenbedrijf Amsterdam NV as of that date.

PTA’s cruise activities fit in seamlessly with those of Port of Amsterdam that manages and operates the port of Amsterdam and is responsible for ensuring smooth, safe and sustainable pilotage. The acquisition provides more opportunities to optimally facilitate the cruise activities and to achieve synergy benefits.

Koen Overtoom, Chief Operations Officer at Port of Amsterdam: “This strategic acquisition will enable us to further strengthen Amsterdam’s position as a cruise port of call among the international cruise ship companies. Cruise passengers generate approximately EUR 90 million in income for the city and region each year. They are tourists who spend money and consequently contribute to the region’s economy.”

Rene Kouwenberg, Director of Passenger Terminal Amsterdam: “This transaction confirms Port of Amsterdam’s confidence in our organisation. We expect that together we will be able to strengthen our position in the cruise market and help provide a further impetus to the city and the region in the years ahead.”
