Esson to Lead Decom Solution Centre


Roger EssonRoger Esson has been appointed as Decommissioning Solution Centre Manager at the Oil & Gas Technology Centre. Currently Chief Executive of Decom North Sea, Esson has over twenty years of oil and gas industry leadership experience in the UK, and internationally. He was involved in executing several major decommissioning projects, including North West Hutton and Brent Delta.

Reporting to Colette Cohen, CEO at the Oil & Gas Technology Centre, he will lead the Decommissioning Solution Centre, working in partnership with the industry and technology providers to accelerate the pace of new technologies to drive value and efficiency in this growing area of the industry. Cohen says: “We are delighted to welcome Mr Esson to the Oil & Gas Technology Centre leadership team to lead our Decommissioning Solution Centre. He has a wealth of industry experience, deep knowledge on decommissioning and excellent relationships across the sector. Our priority is to work in partnership with the industry and technology providers to develop and deploy technologies that help extend the production life of UKCS fields, and help deliver the goal of reducing decommissioning costs by 35 percent. We look forward to him joining us in the coming months.”

Decommissioning is one of five industry-led themes the Oil & Gas Technology Centre is currently focused on. The other themes are well construction, asset integrity, small pools and digital transformation. With more than 65 memberships, the Centre has approved investment of more than EUR 20 million in thirty projects in partnership with industry since it was established in February 2017.
