Kooiman Marine Group Builts Second LNG Bunker Pontoon

On 5 February 2019, Shipyard Kooiman was engaged to build a second LNG Bunkering Pontoon, named FlexFueler 002. Purchaser of this vessel is the Belgium company Fluxys N.V. The long term operator of this pontoon will be Titan LNG B.V., Amsterdam, who also ordered the first pontoon at Kooiman.

Fluxys and Titan LNG have joined forces to build the FlexFueler 002, a bunkering pontoon to make liquified natural gas (LNG) a more widely available as shipping fuel in the Antwerp port and region. The pontoon will be commissioned by mid 2020 and support the shipping industry in its switch to cleaner operations. Titan LNG will be the long term operator of the pontoon.

The pontoon ( length over all 76,40m x breadth over all 11,45m), is equipped with four vacuum insulated type C cargo tanks of 370m3 each, to carry liquid LNG. The pontoon is not self propelled and for assistance in manoeuvring, a bow thruster is installed. On the back of the pontoon there will be a control room and a simple accommodation.

The FlexFueler 002 LNG bunkering pontoon will have for its home location Quay 526/528 in the port of Antwerp. Fluxys at Quay 526/528 has a concession to provide LNG bunkering services and currently accommodates truck to ship bunkering on the site. FlexFueler 002 is the second Titan LNG developed pontoon in its sort and identical to FlexFueler 001, which will come into service in Amsterdam in approximately 3 months.
