MCI Shows Strong Turnover Growth
Marine Components International (MCI) that is based in the UK has increased turnover by a quarter in the last twelve months under new management. New deals in the superyacht and motor boat sectors across the UK and Europe have ramped up turnover to EUR 1.5 million, nearly double sales from two years ago at the company which provides distribution and technical support for a range of manufacturers.
MCI’s Managing Director Andy Scott, who took over the Poole headquartered company in 2017, says growth is being driven by orders for its American-made Bennett trim trabs systems with customers including south coast luxury boat builders Princess Yachts and Sunseeker. Meanwhile, MCI is also seeing growing demand for its American manufactured Groco range of bronze valves and strainers with deals being struck with superyacht and boat building yards in Italy and Greece.
Another area of growth is MCI’s Dr Shrink range of industrial packaging which is used to shrink wrap boats during refit and winter storage. Mr Scott says boat yards in the UK and Majorca have placed orders for MCI’s Dr Shrink products in the last year. In addition, he states Dr Shrink is seeing growth in the industrial sector protecting machinery during transportation and buildings under construction. “We are delighted to see growth in the last year after a huge amount of effort from the new team”, says Mr Scott, who has worked in the maritime sector for more than 30 years. “MCI is a well-established and well-known company with a good client base. But it was in need of modernising. We have introduced a range of improvements including better stock rotation and shorter lead in times to offer customers more value and better service. Our ambition is to be much more proactive with the business and double MCI’s turnover within three years to more than EUR 3.4 million.”
Mr Scott states MCI has a clear strategy to win more work in the superyacht and leisure marine sectors working with boat yards and naval architects in the UK and Europe. “Bennett Marine is a key product for MCI. It has been a market leader for 50 years and is the only company that offers both electric and hydraulic trim tab solutions. Bennett has been used by the world’s best boat builders on vessels up to 30m and has the largest range of control options from simple rocker switches to fully automatic Auto Trim Pro. Similarly, Groco is hugely respected for the quality and durability of its bronze valves and strainers which are far superior to brass alternatives. Plus it has a very strong range of pumps, water pressure systems sanitation and heat exchangers. Groco’s core market is boats up to 100m in the leisure and commercial motor and yacht sectors. This year as well as supplying several large yacht refits we also supplied a 42m Falkland Isles ferry with large Groco vertical duplex strainers.”
