Smart Marine Locks Revolutionises Key Management

A digital, keyless access system is set to revolutionise the way superyacht owners and captains manage the security of their vessels. Smart Marine Locks have created a unique wireless locking system which can now be used internally and externally thanks to a saltwater resistant cover.

The locks easily fit in existing doors, taking the place of traditional locks and without the upheaval of ripping up fixtures and fittings to run cabling through and can be controlled with a small fob, card, or remotely. Creator Iain Davie is a qualified captain and has experience in maritime security. He designed Smart Marine Locks as a way of bringing the convenience of intelligent land-based lock systems to the water.

After two years of development, he has created the unique components needed to make the system suitable for marine use – even offering a patented anti snag IP67 protective escutcheon for exposed weather decks and a flush mounted deck hatch lock. The Smart padlocks provide convenient security for dockside and deck borne equipment. Iain said: “Why are we selling multi-million pound yachts with keys in the doors? A crew door may have 6 keys and a crew of 20 needing access. “Security awareness is changing, even within Europe, many yachts now feel safer with all exterior doors locked at all times, this wireless system makes it easy to control which doors are locked and unlocked at any given time. Why have the hassle, and risk of handing out and losing loads of keys when there’s an affordable  solution like this?”

The control system for Smart Marine Locks can be integrated into a superyacht’s own IT network and an 18 doors system can be installed in less than two days, compared to at least two weeks for the retrofit of an electronic security system.
