Solent Refit
Solent Refit is a new superyacht facility located opposite Southampton, UK. The facility features a large capacity 1500 ton horizontal slipway capable of handling vessels up to 70 m. The site is managed by Yacht Project Associates who are on hand for comprehensive project management.
This facility is available to any shipyard that may have limits to their own capacity or insufficient space and would like to use their workforce at Solent Refit. Highly skilled maintenance and refit teams operate locally and on site, who are all time served craftsmen and extremely experienced in the large yacht market. They can undertake full maintenance refits or rebuild projects.
With a purpose build rail transfer system, yachts can be easily moved from the slipway to locations for longer term periods of work out of the water. There is 10,000sqm of under cover work areas, for projects that require protection from the weather. Large working pontoons can provide 14 service berths for superyachts up to 100m with road access. The yard is able to provide workshop containers and offices on the dockside. Heavy lifting cranes and shoreside equipment are available to support work projects, including stepping of masts for larger yachts. The yard has a quick turn around visitor berth, which can often be made available at short notice.
Modifications to hulls and superstructures can also be carried out undercover and redesign and styling of interiors can be carried out afloat. Technicians for electrical systems alterations and repairs also form part of the on-site workforce. A number of superyachts have visited the yard recently, some for work alongside and others slipped and moved to the undercover sheds. Southampton Water’s unique double high tide allows for a safe tidal margin for slipping, unlike other UK slipways. Charges are extremely competitive, especially against the dollar or the Euro.
