Official Opening Date for IMS 700 Site at Monaco Yacht Show 2014

DSC_7482aAs announced in IMS in May, the shipyard will open 80 additional spaces at the end of the year at the heart of the Toulon bay, for vessels from 20 to 80m. This will make it the largest yacht repair shipyard on the Mediterranean. Work is in full swing.

Upcoming arrival of the 670t lifting equipment

Development work is well underway on Saint-Mandrier’s former naval air base that will be home to IMS 700. The impressive 60,000m2 central platorm that will house four huge sheds with a ceiling height of up to 15m is an illustration of the sheer size of this colossal project.

Work is progressing on schedule
  •  Over 50 percent of the foorings have already been prepared, i.e. close to 37,000m2 of foors have been recovered, crushed, compressed and asphalted to make sure they are well drained and can cope with the weight of the vessels. This is a major operation, carried out with the “zero disposal” principle in mind, i.e. recovering and reusing all the parts of the former roads, a principle of clear environmental interest.
  •  In all, 57,000 linear metres of electric cable and around 580 linear metres of vacuum network systems for pumping sewage from the vessels have been laid into over 1 km of trenches.
  •  The interiors of the buildings and sheds for the future ofces and workshops have been deconstructed and evacuated. Asbestos and lead removal operations have been completed and the reconstruction phase is about to start, set to be completed in the autumn;
  •  The central platorm is now ready to receive the 670t lifing system, which will be delivered unassembled next week, assembled this summer and put into operation in September.
A unique wet dock on the mediterranean

The development of the entire maritime area will make it possible to create the largest wet dock devoted to yacht refit and maintenance on the Mediterranean.

Well protected from the swell by a long foating break water, this area is designed to accommodate an average of 15 vessels of up to 80m long and 10m draught, and is ideally adapted for repair & refit activities:

– access to moored boats via a foating pontoon;

– motorized tender available 7/7 for vessel mooring;

– a base for divers and their equipment ideally located at the centre of the area.

Work has just begun with the arrival of the metal piles (4m long and 1m diameter).

In total,2,000t of piles will support the pontoon intended for receiving yachts and the hauling dock; they will also be used to moor the break water.

The Monaco Yacht Show – 24th – 27th Sept. 2014

Given the good progress of the work, IMS will be able to announce the ofcial opening date of the IMS 700 site at the Monaco Yacht Show 2014. Denis Pellegrino, President of IMS Shipyard explains: “The Monaco Yacht Show 2014 will be a particularly important edition for IMS Shipyard.
