Offshore Energy: Home of Energy Transition
For more than twelve years, Offshore Energy Exhibition and Conference (OEEC) has been bringing together the offshore energy industry sectors of oil & gas, offshore wind and marine energy. This year, the event, to be held on (7), 8 & 9 October in Amsterdam, will attract over 10,000 offshore professionals and more than 550 exhibiting companies.
With the various offshore industries being presented, the event provides the energy transition sector with a home. This is reflected by the 22,500m2 exhibition floor and the Conference itself, which consists of six two-hour sessions, the Offshore Wind Conference (OWC) and the Marine Energy Event. Energy Plaza, a new feature on the exhibition floor, combines many strong concepts in one spot, such as Startup Zone, The Stage, Navingo stand and the Premium Lounge. A fascinating mix of business leaders, buyers, investors, engineers and other interested parties within the offshore energy sector will get the opportunity to meet each other at OEEC.
As the world transitions to lower-carbon energy solutions, the energy industry needs to determine what makes commercial and environmental sense and how does offshore wind fit in? OWC will start with an opening session by the Chairman and will directly move on to a session called Update NL. This session offers an update of the developments in the Dutch offshore wind industry regarding innovations and technology (policy), and is intended for foreign delegates who would like to become updated on the latest in offshore wind in the Netherlands. Wim van Urk, Program Manager North Sea at the Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management, is one of the confirmed speakers.
The Conference Sessions are aimed at combining all industries in their efforts to further the energy transition. Setting the scene for the whole conference is the International Energy Outlook, where experts will open the Offshore Energy Conference with their vision and view on the patterns, trends and perspectives of an energy system in transition. With that global view in mind, and with the subject of Energy Transition Live on the North Sea in 2019, moderator and Business Director Gas Technology at TNO Rene Peters will guide the room round what is happening in the North Sea right now. With the transition from oil and gas to renewable energy, storage of that energy is one of the key challenges. The advantages and benefits that integrated systems can bring to further the acceleration of the transition, and the parties involved, will be discussed in the topic ‘Moving into Future Offshore Systems’, focusing on CO2, H2 and electricity.
Energy transition often sparks interesting discussions, which is why the Energy Transition Debate session is good to attend. After some healthy debate, new frontiers can be decided upon. Digitalisation is key for every operator in optimising the use of both traditional and renewable energy resources, and vital in facilitating the transition. Last, but certainly not least, is the final conference session on Cross Industry Game Changing Technologies. The fifth annual Marine Energy Event is organised in cooperation with the Dutch Marine Energy Centre (DMEC) and the Dutch Energy from Water Association (EWA). This session will delve into how Europe is positioned to lead the energy transition, while also highlighting how marine energy solutions could be successful export products.
