Shin Kurushima Standardizes On SmartMarine 3D

shin_webShin Kurushima Dockyard (SKDY), recognized as one of the most productive shipyards worldwide, has standardized on Intergraph SmartMarine 3D design and engineering software after an intensive two-year benchmark study. “We are pleased with the results of our benchmark that led to our selection of SmartMarine 3D and the best next-generation solutions available for ship design and production,” said Isshin Fujii, general manager, Ship Design Department of SKDY. “We chose to standardize on SmartMarine 3D because it offers proven efficiency and design automation to enable us to reduce the costs and time of building ships.”

Based on the productivity experienced in the benchmark study, Japan-based SKDY expects further improvements in productivity and production planning using the automated structure detailing within SmartMarine 3D, the first new 3D technology for the marine market offered in 20 years. SKDY also expects improvements in labor costs by using a global workshare connection to offices in Indonesia. Gerhard Sallinger, Intergraph Process, Power and Marine president, said, “As one of the most productive yards in the world, we are excited to have SKDY join our growing roster of marine and offshore customers. The productivity results that SmartMarine 3D have delivered in this very competitive process are an indication as to why SmartMarine 3D has become the premier ship design and engineering software in the industry.”

The SmartMarine 3D implementation will encompass the entire SKDY enterprise, including its yards in Onishi, Hashihama, Ujina, and Toyohashi, Japan, and offices in Indonesia, with specific focus on worksharing capabilities across Southeast Asia. Ship modeling will be managed in a central location, and SmartMarine 3D worksharing capabilities will permit design reviews and changes to be seamlessly shared from various locations throughout the entire ship design process, from initial design through the manufacturing phase. The ability to workshare will save valuable time and labor costs while increasing productivity for SKDY.
