Cutter Suction Dredger for Nigeria

csd450-150

A Damen cutter suction dredger, type CSD450, is prepared for transport to Nigeria for Fiddil Nigeria Ltd. The standard dredger has been enhanced by many options to fulfil the local operational requirements. The dredger, named “Ononaku”, will work on an oil company project together with its bigger sister “Princess Ona”. The cutter suction dredger, type CSD450, is a standard dismountable dredger of well-proven design, enhanced by a number of options. The standard dredging depth was enlarged by 2 m, resulting in a max dredging depth of -14 m. Furthermore anchor booms and winches were added. These anchor booms shift the dredgers anchors without the help of an auxiliary vessel. The efficiency is boosted also by the addition of a spud carriage pontoon. The pontoon is a simple addition to the standard dredger, but facilitates dredging using the 3.5 m cylinder stroke hence manoeuvring is minimised.

The dredger has been fitted out with an accommodation unit, on top of which the control cabin is placed for optimal view of the deck and the job site. The accommodation unit is equipped with a galley, a seating area, and a sanitary space. The unit includes fresh water and wastewater tanks, plus an air condition unit. Moreover, a mast with navigation lights is fitted, plus 4 floodlights and a searchlight. On the portside pontoon a jib crane was added to handle spares in and out of the store.

The dredger will travel to Port Harcourt early January, where it will work in the Niger Delta on a project for the Shell Petroleum Development Company, alongside with its sister vessel, a Damen CSD500 named ‘Princess Ona’. As the dredging contract in the swamp area was increased, Fiddil Nigeria Ltd was happy that a Damen dredger was immediately available to help out.

Damen Dredging Equipment is happy to learn that the 2 dredgers ‘Ononaku’ and ‘Princess Ona’ will cooperate on the Shell project in the Nigerian swamp.
